Matter FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Matter.

What is Matter?

Matter is a new, open smart home protocol that uses existing, familiar technologies, including Wi-Fi, for connecting devices. Major smart home platforms and device brands have already upgraded many existing hubs, smart speakers, and other devices already in millions of homes and on store shelves today, so new Matter devices will work seamlessly with your existing smart home.

Which Cync products support Matter?

Look for the matter badge on the front of the package and on the device itself. If the badge is on the product, it is compatible with all Matter systems.

Will existing Cync products support Matter?

No, products must have the Matter logo printed on the device to be commissioned into a Matter system.

What features are available through Matter?

Currently, on/off, brightness, white tuning and full color control are available for Cync products. Most Matter systems support routines and scheduling as well.

Do I need a hub to set up Matter?

Yes, unlike the Cync app, control through Matter requires a local controller to send messages.

Which ecosystems support Matter? And how do I get started?

Many smart home systems are being updated to support Matter. Be sure your phone and Matter hub are on the same Wi-Fi network and refer to the details below on how to get started.

Can I set up my device in different ecosystems?

Yes you can. Cync products support 5 simultaneous ecosystems. The setup code that comes with the device is only for the first ecosystem. You will need to get a new setup code from the device settings menu in the first ecosystem. Use the setup code from the first ecosystem and follow the setup instructions from the getting started section.

How do Cync products work in Matter?

Cync uses the Matter over Wi-Fi protocol.

Can I use my device in Matter and the Cync App?

No, currently devices that are setup in the Cync app cannot be directly connected through Matter. Refer to the Cync app settings for voice for a cloud-based connection to Google Home or Alexa.

How do I reset my Matter device?

Refer to the factory reset instructions for your Cync device on our Support Page.
