Installing Cync Indoor Light Strips
Best Practices for Mounting
Installing Cync Indoor Light Strips
- Measure the area where you are installing the light strip.

- Based on the length needed, either trim or extend (light strip extension sold separately). Confirm your Cync device is capable of trimming and/or extending before continuing. See the Light Strip Trim and Extend Capability Guide for more detailed information.
If you trim:
- Make sure the strip is not plugged in at the wall when cutting.
- Only trim the strip where shown on image below. Other areas will permanently damage the strip.
If you extend:
- Make sure the strip is not plugged in at the wall prior to attaching extension.
- Remove plastic cover from end to link strips.
- Light strip can be extended up to 32 ft.
- Before you install, understand the bending options:
- Using a cloth, clean the surface of water, oil, and dust before application.
- Mount or support the control box to prevent the weight of it from pulling on the strip.
- Peel off tape from the back of the light strip.
NOTE: You should try to avoid reusing the adhesive. If you need to move your light strip, or reinstall it after installation, you may want to consider using a double-sided adhesive tape.
- Stick to surface. Press and hold for at least 30 seconds to firmly adhere the strip to the surface. Repeat this every 6 inches to ensure the entire length of the strip has adhered to the surface.
NOTE: Adhesive may damage walls or painted surfaces if removed.
Helpful Hints
Why aren't my light strips sticking?
- The self-adhesive on the back of the led strip lights typically needs a smooth surface in order to stick securely. Rough surfaces or too many grooves will limit the contact between the surface and the 3M tape backing. Less contact means less of a bond, leading to the light strips falling or drooping in places.
- The environment around the strip also affects the peel-and-stick backing. Very hot climates will lead to failure in the adhesive material. It may be working at first, but after one extremely hot day, the tape will fail as the surface temperature rises. Humidity and moisture in the air also have a negative effect on the strips causing them to lose their bonding ability.
Light Strip Application Care Instructions
- Using a cloth, clean the surface of water, oil, and dust before application.
- Press light strip onto the surface for at least 30 seconds.
- Once strip is applied to the surface, press light strip into place a second time to prolong the adhesiveness.

Follow these best practices during installation:
- Remove the strip from its packaging and straighten it out for at least one hour to reduce curling.
- Power the strip for at least one hour before installing.
- Clean the mounting surface of dust and moisture.
- Mount or support the control box to prevent the weight of it from pulling on the strip.
- Press and hold the strip against the mounting surface for at least 30 seconds every six inches to allow the adhesive to properly bond to the surface.
If an unrecommended surface is used, or more support is desired, please use the mounting clips included in the packaging. If there were no mounting clips, Gorilla heavy duty mounting tape will also work well on nearly all surface types. If this is used, it should be applied parallel to the length of the light strip and between the light strip and the mounting surface. See the recommended Gorilla tape here.
