Wire-Free Switches - FAQs

No, our Wire-Free devices are battery powered and can only control other Cync or C by GE devices, you cannot control them out-of-home. However, if you want out-of-home control for the Cync or C by GE devices that your Wire-Free device controls, you can enable this smart benefit by adding a Wi-Fi device to your smart home. Direct Connect Lights, Smart Plugs, or Wired Switches are Wi-Fi devices that will enable out of home control of your smart home.

Do Wire-Free Devices work with Alexa, Google and HomeKit?

No, our Wire-Free devices are battery powered and can only control other Cync or C by GE devices. You cannot control them with a voice assistant.

Can I control other smart home brands with Cync Wire-Free devices?

Our Wire-Free devices only work with other Cync or C by GE products.

Do I need Wi-Fi for Wire-Free devices?

No, Wire-Free devices only support Bluetooth connectivity and are battery operated.

Which Cync/C by GE devices do these Wire-Free devices work with?

Wire-Free Switches, Remotes and Wire-Free Motion Sensors control all Cync or C by GE devices that are assigned to the same app Room or Group.  

How do I control Cync/C by GE devices with a Wire-Free Device? 

Simply assign the Wire-Free Switch, Remote or Wire-Free Motion Sensor to the same Cync App Room or Group as the Cync or C by GE devices you want to control.  

How do I change what is controlled by Wire-Free devices?

Since Wire-Free Devices will control whatever is in the same Cync App Room or Group, you can move your Cync or C by GE devices to a new or different app Room or Group. 

We recommend no more than 50 devices in one Cync app Home. Therefore, you can have one Cync/C by GE Wire-Free device and 49 Cync/C by GE devices in one Cync app Home.

Wire-Free Devices are rated for indoor use only.

Wire-Free Devices will stay awake for 60 seconds and then put themselves into sleep mode to conserve battery life. During sleep mode, Wire-Free devices will continue to control other Cync or C by GE devices. However, they must be awake to adjust settings including firmware updates.

How long does the device stay in setup mode?

The device is in setup mode for five minutes. If the device goes into sleep mode before you paired it to the Cync app, simply wake the device by holding the side button down until the LED light flashes blue again. 

How do I update firmware on Wire-Free devices?

Navigate to Settings > Devices > Firmware Updates. The Cync app will check for updates. If the device needs updated, you will be prompted to wake up your device and then execute the update. A firmware update is also performed (if needed) when the device is first set up in the Cync app.

Wire-Free switches use one CR2032 coin battery, which has a 2+ year battery life. The indicator light on the device will display red when the battery level is below 20%.

Can I customize what the buttons on Wire-Free Switches do?

The buttons are not able to be customized at this time.
