Single-Pole Installation

Single-Pole installation means you are installing one switch that controls one circuit and one set of lights.

Download the Installation Guide for the single-pole installation of your Cync/C by GE 3-Wire (No Neutral) Smart Switch.

⇒ 3-Wire (No Neutral) Switch, Single-Pole Digital Installation Guide

3-Way Installation

3-Way installation means you are installing two switches that control one circuit and one set of lights.

NOTE: All switches on the same circuit must be replaced with a Cync or C by GE Smart Switch. For example, if you replace one switch on the circuit with Cync/C by GE Smart Switch, you will need to replace all the switches on that same circuit with a Cync/C by GE Smart Switch.

Dead End 3-Way Installation

3-Way installation means you are installing two switches that control one circuit and one set of lights.

NOTE: All switches on the same circuit must be replaced with a Cync or C by GE Smart Switch. For example, if you replace one switch on the circuit with Cync/C by GE Smart Switch, you will need to replace all the switches on that same circuit with a Cync/C by GE Smart Switch.

Helpful Tips

  • For a 3-Way setup:

    • Only the load switch will turn the light on/off until all switches/dimmers on the circuit are grouped in the same Cync app room.
    • If you setup dimmers, the dimmer buttons will not work until all dimmers are grouped in the same Cync app room.
  • 3-Wire (No Neutral) Switches and Dimmers have a 15W minimum load requirement. Depending on the bulb type or the wattage of your lights, you may experience functionality issues that would require the use of the Cync Bulb Adaptor (included in box) or the Fixture Adaptor (available by filling out the Fixture Adaptor Request Form or contacting Cync Customer Service 1-844-302-2943). If you are experiencing any functionality issues after installing your switch, here are more details on the adaptor requirements.

Troubleshooting

  • Your switch is not in setup mode if the LED light on your switch is not flashing blue after you've installed it. This means you will not be able to connect it to the Cync app. If the LED light did not turn on, here are some common solutions:
    • Confirm the breaker is on
    • Check that the switch is wired correctly
    • You may need to install the Bulb Adaptor or Fixture Adaptor. Click here for more information.
      • If the bulb adaptor does not fit the light bulbs on the circuit, request a fixture adaptor by filling out the Fixture Adaptor Request Form or calling Cync Customer Support: 1-844-302-2943
  • If the light ring is flashing red, this means the circuit is overloaded. Max load rating is 150W for LED and 450W for incandescent/halogen.

Troubleshooting for Buzzing Switch

Some low threshold level of buzzing is normal if listening close to the switch. If the switch is buzzing at a volume above the threshold, perform the following checks:

  1. If total circuit wattage is over 150W for an LED bulb or over 450W for an incandescent/halogen bulb, remove some lights from the circuit or replace with lower wattage bulbs.
  2. If the buzzing sounds originates from the light bulbs, swap in a different incandescent/halogen bulb or a bulb from the compatible list.
  3. Ensure load wattage on the switch circuit is at least 15W.
  4. If you are using any non-dimmable bulbs, install the 3-Wire (No Neutral) Bulb Adaptor.
    • The 3-Wire (No Neutral) Bulb Adaptor can be screwed in. If screw is not compatible, use the Fixture Adaptor version.
  5. If the load is a Cync Smart Bulb, ensure load type is set to Smart/Cync lights in the Cync App.
  6. If the switch type is a Dimmer or Motion Dimmer, ensure the load lights are dimmable.
  7. If the switch type is an On/Off switch and the bulb is NOT on the compatible list, swap in a different incandescent/halogen bulb or a bulb from the Compatible list.

NOTE: This smart switch is not compatible with ceiling fans. We have a specific product designed for ceiling fans, the Cync Ceiling Fan Smart Switch.
